SAT CHECK-UP

Innovative Test in Dentistry Clinical Practice

Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) represent one of the most abundant types of free radicals.
In physiological conditions ROS levels are regulated by a fine equilibrium namely RedOx balance.
When ROS production outperforms the physiological ability to counteract the deleterious effects of these reactive species a condition known as oxidative stress (OS) occurs.
In these conditions, the organism restores its RedOx status thanks to the antioxidant defences system (AD), the ensemble of enzymes and molecules endowed with antioxidant potential and designed to neutralise the ROS deleterious effects.
In pathological condition the AD does not properly work and the organism is no longer able to defend itself from the ROS deleterious actions.
Scientific researches revealed how altered antioxidant levels in saliva are associated with oral cavity dysfunctions.
The evaluation of the saliva’s antioxidant power might improve the network of clinical parameters characterizing the patient’s well-being, as part of an growing widespread customization of medicine and with the aim of making increasingly targeted and patient-tailored choices.

TARGET
  • DENTISTS
  • ORAL HYGIENISTS

PURPOSE

To monitor the antioxidant potential in saliva to control the well-being status of the oral cavity and to control the effectiveness of orthodontic treatments.

1 THE SAT TEST

Recent scientific researches highlight how altered antioxidant levels in saliva are associated with oral cavity dysfunctions.
The SAT Check-up starts with the analysis of the antioxidant potential of saliva by means of the SAT test, which can be easily performed in just 3 minutes with the MiniSAT photometer.
The SAT test allows for the quantitative analysis of the total antioxidant power of saliva. Normal reference values for healthy population are available.
The MiniSAT is a portable lab that can be used as bedside pointof-care, facilitating the use in clinical practice with reduction of costs.

2 THE SAT MANAGER

SAT Manager is a web-based application that supports dentists and oral hygienists in their patients clinical management.
SAT Manager combines the results of the SAT Test and of the SAT Questionnaire, considering situations related to the antioxidant power of saliva, and it generates the SAT Report with indications on the actions that have to be taken to maintain or improve a good state of the oral cavity.

3 PATIENT MANAGEMENT

The SAT Report also provides advices on useful supplements (e.g. food supplements, toothpastes, etc…), depending on the SAT Check-up results.
Such indications can aid the specialist in their decision-making process, supporting them with indications on how to intervene in order to restore the proper oral antioxidant power or to evaluate the effectiveness of an ongoing orthodontic treatment.

THE EFFICACY OF THE TREATMENT

The SAT Check-up can be performed from time to time, following a longitudinal approach.
The comparison of different SAT Check-up results performed at different time-points can provide doctors and specialists with a better picture of the effectiveness of a treatment, unveiling if the pursued strategy is actively bringing to the desired results or not.
In the latter case, the specialists have the chance to properly modify the treatment so as to increase its efficacy.
